The Mistake of Trusting in Politics

Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, "The central insight of conservatism is that culture precedes politics." He was absolutely right -- not only that this is the central insight of conservatism -- but that culture is indeed more important than politics.

Claes G. Ryn looks at the mistake conservatives have made by being obsessed with politics rather than culture. Read it here.

Note to my friends who do not identify as conservatives -- you would enjoy reading this piece. It is not about "liberals" and "conservatives" construed in crass political terms. It is about the deep mistake of american conservatives to trust in politics to shape our common life in the first place. It is about the greater importance of things like community, faith, art and family.
