It has been interesting/entertaining to watch the politics of the Iraqi War as the current phase continues to drag on. On one hand, it is great political capital for the dems - they can support the troops and hit Bush about being a failure in waging the war, arrogant in relationship to the world, etc. Good politics and any politician worth her or his weight should not ignore such a good target.

At the same time, I really think the success or failure of an armed conflict cannot be judged in the short run. Look at Lincoln and the War Between the states. Many in the north hated Lincoln, thought he was a buffoon, thought the north never should never have waged war, etc. Lincoln even had to give Union troops furloughs to return home and vote in the 1864 election so he could win. But now, Lincoln is a hero, one of our great presidents.

Now, don't get me wrong, George W. Bush is not in the same league as Lincoln (just read one of Lincoln's speeches that he wrote hmself - and he never went to school. Wow.). My only point is that time will have to pass before a clear judgment can be made on this war.

I think this is the first time I have ever written anything political on my blog. Hmmm...
