I have a deep need to rant. Here goes......

I awoke early this morning and perused the net looking for updates from the Primates Meeting at Lambeth (37 archbishops from the Anglican world meeting with the Archbioshop of Canterbury). Since it was early afternoon in London I assumed some fresh news might have surfaced.

A little has trickled out - although the meetings are still taking place so not much came out. Frankly, I am discouraged. It looks like a majority of archbishops do not want to make a stand and want to have a "study commission" on the issue of sexuality. Hey - we've been having study commissions for years and it has got us nowhere.

The revisionists want to preserve the unity of the Anglican Communion, but the unity is a sham. There are two churches - one historic and orthodox and one revisionist, syncretistic and new age. The fight over homosexuality is a surface issue - one that finally forced the hand of the orthodox - but the real question is the content and nature of the Christian faith. The unity they want is institutional. The queen (QE 2)doesn't want the communion breaking up under her watch (bad show all around don't you know.) The orthodox have all the money so we can't lose that!! (Same old story, the orthodox give the money and the revisionists spend it on God knows what.)

I pray the Africans stand firm and if need be leave the communion and its stupid shenanigans. Like I wrote above, the unity that would be maintained would be a sham - Oh yeah, we all put our clericals on and our cassock and surplice and march into church buildings to the tune of All Glory Laud and Honor but when we say the creed one priest means every word and the next priest sees it as a "symbol of our culture's attempt to connect to the divine, but none of it is true in any literal sense." Sounds so open, so politic and so intellectual. Maybe so, but it can send you straight to hell if you're not careful!!

Like I said - I'm ranting. when I calm down I'll probably have a more balanced view of these things.

Where's Athanasius when you need him!!!
